Nylon/PA Insert Bonding Issues
A customer sent in some sample parts which were 30% glass filled Nylon 6,6 with a Santoprene™ brand TPV 191-55PA overmold. The overmold was experiencing adhesion lower than the customer required. After discussing the issue with the customer, two possible solutions were presented. First, they could stick with Santoprene™ brand TPV 191-55PA and preheat the insert, as well as run the Santoprene™ brand TPV 191-55PA melt temperature to the upper limit. This would help increase the bond strength between the two materials. The second solution, which was implemented and solved the problem, was to switch to a newly formulated Santoprene™ brand TPV 8191-60B500 grade, which was developed for increased adhesion to several polyamide substrates for cold insert molding applications.
