Runner Design to Optimize Overmolding
A customer sent a part drawing of an insert molded part with an overmold section. The overmold material was 8211-75 to be shot over polypropylene. This customer wanted us to look at his runner sizes. After reviewing the drawing, it appeared the customer had oversized the runner system. This will reduce the efficiency of the molding process by increasing the pressure drop within the system and using more material than necessary in the runner system. I recommended downsizing the runner system at each break.
